CHALLENGE

Hydraulic system OEM needed a single gasket compound that resisted both petroleum-based hydraulic oil (requiring NBR) and water-glycol coolant (requiring EPDM) — contradictory chemistry requirements.

OUR SOLUTION

Developed proprietary NBR/EPDM blend with compatibilizer additive package. Screened 8 formulations via fluid immersion matrix test. Final compound achieved balanced resistance across both media.

RESULT

Volume swell: <8% in petroleum oil AND <12% in water-glycol after 1000h immersion. Shore A change <5 points in both fluids. Design lifetime 5 years validated per SAE J200.
